Molecular Biology

The Molecular Diagnostics Department is responsible for the development and performance of molecular diagnostic tests for nucleic acid targets found in a variety of settings in medicine. We offer a wide array of tests at the forefront of molecular diagnostics and precision medicine. The real time PCR is the most frequently used molecular technique in a molecular pathology laboratory. We perform molecular testing for microorganisms such as virus (HCV,HBV, Dengue, COVID19 etc) and Bacteria (M. Tuberculosis etc). We also focus on Hematopathology and Genetics testing. Hematopathology is a main focus of our lab with testing performed in genetic analysis of hematologic malignancies for diagnosis and therapeutic decision-making, coagulation genetics, and evaluation of stem-cell transplant patients. We also perform several additional genetic tests including hemochromatosis and cystic fibrosis screens for adults and in conjunction with the prenatal laboratory for new-borns while in Molecular Genetics Testing we perform sequence analysis and mutation analysis. We have fully automated high tech machines and qualified staff to rung all these test with high precisions.

We have special Premium Oncogenes section where by using ultra deep polymerase chain reaction (PCR), karyotype analysis, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and next-generation sequencing (NGS) and exome sequencing are used for very efficient detection of several mutations implicated in the pathogenesis of haematological diseases. We also perform precision testing of cancer mutated genes generated from proto-oncogenes coding for proteins that regulate proliferation and differentiation or enhance epigenetic modifications.
